15 E- toilets were constructed by Kozhikode Corporation in 2011, as a result of a case filed by Dr. K. S. Jayasree, General Secretary of Streechetana in 2010.

Presently, it was found that most of these toilets have become non- functional and Streechetana brought the same to the attention of the Corporation and the Company. But even after this, the negligence of the concerned authorities and the condition of the toilets remained the same, which prompted Streechetana to file a Public Litigation case against Corporation on 26^th November 2014.

The case was filed against the Corporation Secretary, Municipality Engineer, Health Officer and the company M/s Eram Scientific Solutions, as it was constructed on the agreement that the toilets would be maintained by the Company for the next seven years. The first sitting by the Ombudsman for Local Self Government institutions was held on 17^th March 2015, in which it was ordered that the toilets should be maintained by 14^th May 2015 by the concerned. The next sitting was held on 14^th May 2015, in which further hearing on the case was ensued. Two more sittings were held on 21^st January 2016 and 30^th March 2016 respectively. On the basis of the case, out of 15 toilets, 8 were replaced with new system and the case is still on as the remaining toilets need to be replaced. The next sitting of the case is scheduled to be on 27^th may 2016.
