Streechetana conducted a camp for the youth in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra on the topic “Training on Youth Leadership & Community development”. The residential camp was conducted from 17th November 2016 to 21st November 2016 and was held in Government Youth Hostel, Kozhikode.The camp was inaugurated by Ms.Shamin Sebastian, Deputy Collector,(LA) Kozhikode. Sri.M.Anilkumar, District Youth Co-Ordinator, NYK presided over the function in which Dr.K.S.Jayasree, General Secretary, Streechetana delivered the welcome address.
The inaugural function was followed by an ice-breaking session by Sri.Jafer Cheekilode at 7.3 pm .Drama Master Deeraj Puthiyanirathu conducted a session to find out the acting talents of students to make them prepare a skit for the world toilet day.Through these sessions students from different colleges and clubs got an opportunity to mingle and break the barriers between them and developed a friendly atmosphere.
They were grouped into four and each day , duties such as cleaning,serving food etc were allotted to these groups. Day two began with a recap of last days programme.second day session started with the topic Civic responsibility,led by Prof.Thilakanandan,Law college.Kozhikode. Sri.Induraj from District Industries Centre empowered the youth with self employment schemes. Sri.K.P.Prabhakaran Nair,Rtd.senior manager,Canara Bank introduced the Flagship Programmes of Government to the youth i.e,how to make them aware of bank accounts,savings , pancard, ATM usage etc were included.This was followed by a film Screening on an Iranian film “ by Dr.Sunitha Sreenivasan,Assistant Professor,Mokeri Government college.
Third day had a variety of aspects starting from Gender to Street play.Sri. Hemapalan rendered his valuable time to the youth on the subject “Leadership”.This was followed by a session on ‘Women and Law” by Advocate Delna,Kozhikode.Afternoon session started with a training on “interview and GD skills” led by Radha Iyer,Director Streechetana.
On the third day evening, November 19th 2016,as a part of World Toilet Day, we organised a street drama titled ”Ende Nagaram” as a protest against the nonfunctional and undermaintaned conditions of the public toilets in Kozhikode.Streechetana had earlier approached Mayor Thottathil Raveendran to take steps to improve the public toilet facilities and thereby ensure the effective functioning of the public toilets.Drama master Deeraj Puthiyanirathu taught the students a drama on the theme “Toilet & Job”. Two demonstrations were held -One at Kidsons corner Kozhikode and the other behind the open stage, Beach.Students played a drama on the theme Cleanliness in public toilets.Students were deeply involved and took part in full spirit.
The fourth day of the camp began with the personality development session by Sri Nirmal kumar,Kasargod. The next session was led by Dr.K.S.Jayasree ,Assistant Professor,Sree Narayana College,Chelannur.on the subject Gender. Dr.Mehroof Raj,retired Professor,Medical college had a discussion with the youth on the topic Music for Mind,Soul and Body.He made the youth aware about the importance of melodies and how they influence their mind.
The fifth and the final day of the camp started with the Fire & Rescue training session in which Sri.Pramod gave deep awareness on safety measures.This was followed by a career guidance session by Professor.T.K.Ummer. In the last valedictory session,students were given chances to analyse themselves and the changes which they imbibed after attending the five days training programme.
