Tackling Violence Against Women : A Study of State Intervention Measures

The training of the project “Tackling Violence against Women: A Study of State Intervention Measures” was conducted on 16th July 2016 at Streechetana Center, Calicut. Prof. Medha Somaiya, National Board Advisory Member of the Project Committee and Chair Professor at TISS was the resource person for the training. Representatives from Mumbai, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad were present for the training. Dr. K. S. Jayasree, General Secretary  of Streechetana gave an introduction of Bharatiya Stree Shakti (BSS) and Streechetana, the BSS is active since 1988 for the development and problem resolution of women in all strata of society.  The session was on the topic ‘General Problems faced by Women in Kerala and India’ followed by the Questionnaire discussion. The interview schedule consisted of the questions to be asked to the victim, Nirbhaya Fund Officers, Public Prosecutors, Social Counselors, Medical Practitioners and Police Officer/Station. The team made a visit to the Women’s Police Station in the city to give training to the Investigating officers for interviewing the stakeholders.
